Downtown Waynesville welcomes the world for Folkmoot USA International Day, held 10 AM until 5 PM. This outstanding street festival fills Main Street with three performance areas, local and international arts and craft, a big variety of food and more. Admission is free.

International Day Festival, Waynesville

Folkmoot is North Carolina's official International Folklife Festival, hosting dance groups from around the world each summer. Each year, they feature 8-10 countries, including performances by the Eastern Band of Cherokee and Appalachian groups. While based in Waynesville, events take place in many towns in western North Carolina for a 11-day period in July. Read more about Folkmoot USA.

At the International Festival, all visiting groups will give a short-but-fantastic performance and many will offer free dance lessons (don't be bashful to join in)! These extremely talented dancers are certainly the stars of the day and received rousing cheers from the audience.

When you arrive, get a schedule from volunteers at several info tables (and ask which are their favorite groups not to miss). Dance performance are held at both ends of the festival, and the dance lessons are under a tent in the middle.

The selection of arts and crafts is impressive and fills four blocks. Browse the big diversity of local and international crafts and gifts.

International Bazaar, Waynesville

A must-stop is the international bazaar by the dance tent. Plus, don't forget to explore the many shops and galleries downtown. In addition to festival food ranging from smoked BBQ by a local church to Parisian pastries, there are plenty of restaurants and several breweries to visit.
