The Flame Azalea Festival celebrates one of Appalachia's most treasured natural wonders, a rare stand of native flame azaleas blooming on Hooper Bald in the Nantahala Forest, and the music, food, and art of this western most region in Western North Carolina. Robbinsville is a very small town surrounded by the Nantahala National Forest. It is next door to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. This county has rivers, pristine lakes, ancient forests, and local traditions drawn from the intertwining of Appalachian and Cherokee culture.

Annual Festival in June
The annual festival takes place Saturday, June 20, 2026, from 10 AM to 6 PM at Robbinsville High School. You can start your day with a self-guided hike to see these rare native azaleas blooming in their natural forest home. This might be good to do before the day warms up! Walk through the forest among the stunning blooms and experience the natural beauty that has inspired visitors to Robbinsville and Graham County for generations.

There's lots to do at this festival, which draws people of all ages. You can watch live glass blowing demonstrations as artisans shape molten glass into works of art right before your eyes.

The festival also typically includes Cherokee pottery demonstrations showcasing traditional craftsmanship and artistic traditions. You can meet Cherokee vendors selling authentic fry bread and other traditional foods.
