If your Asheville plans include the River Arts District, downtown, or anywhere near I-26, recent ramp closures may require you to use new routes. When in doubt, contact the business or attraction you plan to visit for guidance. Don't worry: You can still get to where you want to go!

NCDOT closed three ramps permanently as part of a massive roadbuilding project in Asheville that will widen and somewhat re-route interstate 26 through town. These are permanent construction closures. On April 16, 2026, the Riverside Drive entrance ramp to I-240/I-26 closed. Now you'll continue on Riverside to Broadway Street to access I-26 East. There is an eastbound onramp and a westbound onramp.

On April 17, the I-240/I-26 off-ramp to Hill Street closed. Hill Street is primarily used by locals.

In May, the Patton Avenue eastbound ramp to the Patton Avenue frontage road (Westgate Bridge) closes. The exact date and detour were not available as of today.

GPS and mapping apps may not reflect the changes. Follow posted signs, give yourself extra time, and stay alert in work zones.
