Three Awesome Mountain Towns

Downtown Tryon, NC
Tryon
Tryon has so many things to do for a small town (around 1,700 residents). Tryon has been called "The Friendliest Town in the South" and has a vibrant arts community. Stroll downtown to visit galleries, restaurants, and to attend shows at the Tryon Theatre. Tryon also holds the distinction of being the birthplace of jazz legend Nina Simone. Drive just outside of town to enjoy picturesque vineyards in its wine country.

Downtown Saluda, NC
Saluda
Small but mighty, Saluda sits at 2,100 feet elevation with just 700 year-round residents (though the population doubles during summer months). The entire downtown spans just three blocks, but those three blocks offer considerable charm. Perched at the top of the famous Saluda Grade - one of the steepest railroad grades in the country - the town invites visitors to browse antique shops and art studios, enjoy coffee at cozy cafes, then venture to the nearby Green River Gorge for exceptional zip line adventures.

Columbus
Columbus is the quieter of the three, with mountain views everywhere you look, downtown parks, and lots of history. Visit its museums and the historic courthouse, which is one of the oldest still-in-use in North Carolina. Just east of Columbus are Polk County's wineries.
