Asheville and Western North Carolina offer many options for living your "golden years" in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The area's Active Adult Communities allow you to choose the lifestyle, location, and amenities you're looking for with lots of perks like fitness centers, parks and trails, swimming, tennis, golf, and more. Some even offer recreational, educational, cultural, and social programs and are conveniently located so you can enjoy nearby shopping, dining, art galleries, events, and more. Active adult communities in Western NC include single-family homes, townhomes, cluster homes, multifamily housing, and manufactured housing with resident monthly fees that include yard maintenance. Some communities offer a "village-like" setting with a combination of these home types.
Simple Life - The Hamlet
Though there are two types of active adult communities, age-restricted and age-targeted, you'll primarily find more age-targeted communities in the Western NC region.
Age-Restricted Communities
These communities are geared towards persons 55 and older with rules set by the US. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD), which requires at least 80% of the residents to be 55+. No one age 19 or younger may be a permanent resident. Residents enjoy a country club setting where they can live an independent and active lifestyle with amenities like clubhouses, walking trails, hobby centers, computer labels, golf courses, and more. These communities do not provide any health-related services.
Age-Targeted Communities
These communities essentially follow the same guidelines as above, only there are no age restrictions. Residents enjoy the same independent, active lifestyle with all the amenities mentioned above with no health-related services. Leisure communities also fall under this umbrella with mostly two and three-bedroom homes designed for empty nesters. They offer an array of home features designed for your changing lifestyle.
