Lake Lure Rises: Grand Reopening Memorial Day Weekend

After nearly 20 months of restoration following Hurricane Helene, Lake Lure is back. The town holds a grand reopening Memorial Day weekend. The lead up and the event is called Together We Rise. Town leaders have been waiting for the lake level to rise while carefully planning the full reopening.

The lake had a soft reopening April 20 and granted limited public access. The marina, beach, and park provide public access to one of the most beautiful man-made lakes in the country. The lake and the town are within the Hickory Nut Gorge, about 27 miles from Asheville. Both are surrouned by lush ridgelines and sheer granite cliffs. Chimney Rock rises above it all, and from the top, the views of the lake and gorge are among the best in the region.

Businesses, restaurants, and inns in Lake Lure have been reopened and welcoming visitors for months. You can find great hiking, golfing, and picnicking. Attractions include Dittmer-Watts Nature Trails, Lake Lure Green Space, Pool Creek Picnic Park, Youngs Mountain, and Rumbling Bald Golf Courses. The Rumbling Bald Access at Chimney Rock State Park adds climbing to the mix.

Visitors should check with the Rutherford County Tourism Office to confirm best driving routes to Lake Lure.
