A Memorial Day weekend landslide forced a brief closure at Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park, but crews moved fast. The park reopens at 8:30 am on Wednesday, June 3. This is two days ahead of the originally announced June 5 date. 

The slide of 30-by-60-foot section of the park's main road about three-quarters of a mile from the ticket plaza was repaired with support from NCDOT and NC State Parks. 

"We are excited to reopen the Park ahead of schedule," said Director and General Manager Emily Walker. "We are looking forward to helping create lasting memories for our visitors this summer." 

The park will be open daily from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. The elevator is back in service, too. Guests can hike until 7pm. The park will also host a National Trails Day celebration June 6, from 10 am to 3 pm.
