The Toe River Chamber Ensemble presents its annual fall concert on Tuesday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church on the historic Burnsville Square. Admission is free and open to the public. This community orchestra brings together musicians from Buncombe, Madison, Yancey, and Mitchell counties. Conductor R. Kevin Paul leads a program of classical favorites, including Beethoven's Coriolan Overture, Mendelssohn's Ruy Blas Overture, and Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King. The highlight is the world debut of Hurricane Helene, a new symphony by local composer and retired professor Matthew Henry James. Paul says the piece captures both the tragedy of the storm and the strength of the neighbors who lived through it. Seating is first come, first served, so plan to arrive early.
