Winter Featured Concert: January 27, 2018
Don't miss the very special Steep Canyon Rangers "Out in the Open" album release concert in downtown Asheville at the U.S. Cellular Center. The show with special guest River Whyless starts at 8 PM with both general admission standing ($27.50) and reserved seats ($37.50).
Contest: Congrats to Judy from Graham, NC, for winning two tickets!
Steep Canyon Rangers (winner of Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album in 2013) have delighted audiences since 2000 with their signature bluegrass sound with elements of pop, country and folk rock. Steep Canyon Rangers have recorded 9 solo albums plus two collaborative albums with actor/banjoist Steve Martin. They began the band as students at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Their last album "The Long Awaited Album" was just released in September and already hit number one on the bluegrass charts. They are based in Brevard.
From founding member Woody Platt: It's nerve-racking, exciting, and nostalgic to think that our little bluegrass band - which started as a fun college hobby - is preparing to headline a concert in Asheville's largest venue. Growing up in Brevard in the 80s and 90s, I made several trips with my family to the Civic Center to see the circus, The Harlem Globetrotters, and even somehow (without family) ended up going to see the Toughman Contest. It will be wonderfully surreal to take the stage in the big room that I remember so well from childhood and to share the experience with special guests and one of Asheville's favorites, River Whyless. We are also excited to include several members from the Asheville Symphony, who will join us on a few songs. This is a homecoming evening for us, an embrace of so many things that we love about Asheville, and a walk down memory lane. Photo by Jon Major.
