Wizard of Oz Train Ride

Ride the train down the Yellow Brick Road™ to meet the Wizard of Oz™! The 2.5-hour journey retells the story on board the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. Meet Dorothy in Munchkinland and help her get to Emerald City. It's from the same group that presents the super popular Polar Express each year!

Wizard of Oz Train Great Smoky Mountains

Start your ride at the Bryson City Depot, aka Munchkinland, where you'll meet Dorothy and the good witch. Then board the train that follows the Yellow Brick Road to see if the Wizard can help get Dorothy back home to Kansas. Along the way, enjoy refreshments and onboard entertainment with the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion.

Emerald City Oz Train

After defeating the wicked witch, arrive at Emerald City to meet the Powerful Oz himself doing a live stage show. Then board the train to return to Munchkinland with all the characters.

Wear your favorite Wizard of Oz costumes. Bring your camera! Kids get a special gift for helping Dorothy.

Before or after your ride, explore downtown Bryson City with great restaurants and shops. The Great Smoky Mountains Railroad has daily scenic train excursion trips through the North Carolina mountains along Nantahala and Tuckasegee Rivers. Throughout the year, they present many special train events and excursions. Read all about them.

Directions: Located in downtown Bryson City (45 Mitchell Street), about 65 miles west of Asheville. From Asheville, drive I-40 West to exit 27. Take US 74 for 40 miles to Exit 67 for Bryson City. At the end of the exit ramp, bear right. At the first light, turn right onto Main Street, then left onto Everett Street. At the first traffic light on Everett, turn left onto Mitchell Street for the railroad parking.
