The United States Tennis Association (USTA) is bringing some exciting tennis matches to Asheville! Watch Grand Slam Champions Serena Williams and Venus Williams and 2017 U.S. Open Semifinalist CoCo Vandeweghe defend the USA title with the Netherlands for the 2018 Fed Cup first round. A temporary indoor hard court will be built inside the U.S. Cellular Center downtown, so you'll be near the action since it's a small arena. (Pic above from USTA: Sloane Stephens)

Team USA comes to Asheville for the first time after winning its record 18th Fed Cup title on November 12, 2017 against Belarus. To make it more exciting, this was Team USA's first Fed Cup title since 2000 - ending a 17-year drought. Team USA last faced the Netherlands in the 1998 World Group First Round.
U.S. captain Kathy Rinaldi is the first female captain since Billie Jean King in 2000 to win the title, also the last time the cup returned to American soil. Rinaldi will select the four players to represent Team USA no later than 10 days prior to the event.
The best-of-five match series against the Netherlands begins Saturday with two singles matches. That is followed by two reverse singles matches and the doubles match on Sunday. The winner of this matchup will advance to the Fed Cup semifinals, April 21-22.
The USTA is the national governing body for the sport of tennis and the recognized leader in promoting and developing the sport’s growth on every level in the country. Fed Cup is the world’s largest annual international team competition in women’s sport, with approximately 100 nations taking part each year.
