The fun and quirky Spring-Go Festival in the Village of Chimney Rock is sure to provide lots of smiles. This great Mother's Day weekend event includes a quirky parade through town and cow pie bingo. The finale is a picnic dinner and the Rutherford Symphony Orchestra at the Gathering Place park. For a town of only 109 residents, they know how to roll out the red carpet for a fun day. Free admission to daytime events in the Village!
The festival begins with a hardy pancake breakfast fundraiser at the Chimney Rock Volunteer Fire Department, 7-10 AM. Enjoy plenty of food at a great deal! From 9 AM-5 PM, check out funky garden art made from recycled materials, displayed along the village sidewalks. You can either place a bid or buy a piece "on the spot."
Cow Pie Bingo is 9 AM-2 PM with cows spending the day in a field marked with numbered bingo squares. Buy your raffle ticket for $25. If your square is the most "fertile" at the finish time, you could win $1,250 (if all 100 tickets are sold). The festive parade begins at 11 AM with the cow mascot, illamas and plenty of personality strolling down Main Street.
At 5:30 PM, purchase kabobs hot off the grill (cash only) or bring your picnic as you get ready for the big finale of the day at the Gathering Place Park that overlooks the village. At 7 PM, the spring concert of the Rutherford County Symphony plays under the stars with the cliffs of the gorge creating some great acoustics. The park features a fantastic view of the Chimney Rock monolith (pic at top of page).
During the day, you can enjoy all the "usual" things to do in the village. Browse the many shops, dine in a variety of restaurants, sample local beers at Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery, or walk the boardwalk along the Rocky Broad River. See our Chimney Rock Village Guide for more.
For the best hiking and panoramic views back down into the village, head up to the famous rock formation and 404-foot Hickory Nut Falls (admission). See our Chimney Rock Park Guide.
