For a VIP tour of the vineyards and winery at Biltmore Estate, take their Vine to Wine Tour. The 2.5-hour tour is offered only in late summer and fall on Saturday and Sundays, May-October. Sample specially selected award-winning premium wines throughout the tour, along with light bites. What a way to learn! (Read about visiting the Winery.)
The Vine to Wine tour begins at the front door of the Winery with a friendy, knowledgable guide. Your small group will start the tour with a brief history lesson on the Biltmore Winery and the previous dairy operation. Then board a small motorcoach and head across the French Broad River to the "other side" of Biltmore with rolling farmland, not open to visitors on general tours.
Enjoy the mountain views and sip some wine while you learn about many steps to growing the grapes. Then head back to the winery's crush dock to begin a behind-the-scenes tour on the floor of the production areas.
See the entire process of vine to bottle, including the towering fermenting tanks, rows of oak barrels, the bottling line and fascinating process of creating sparkling wine. The tour concludes as you gather around a table filled with wine bottles, glasses and an assortment of cheese and truffles. Leisurely sample a half dozen premium wines and get many tips on wine pairing to take home (and impress your friends at your next dinner party!).
This is an adult only (21 and over) tour. Cost is $85/person (passholders save 10%), in addition to the estate ticket. Advance reservations are required. Since there is very limited seating, you should reserve well in advance. Get more info on Biltmore's web site. Call Biltmore at 1-800-411-3812 to book.
Note: A much shorter guided tour of the winery is included with your admission ticket - you should sign up as soon as you arrive at the winery if you are not taking the Vine to Wine Tour.
