The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa has returned to its historic roots by offering their guests E.W. Grove inspired creative Magical Elixir concoctions in their beverage outlets. The creatively unique drinks are brought to the table in an old-timey elixir bottle along with an appropriate martini or highball glass. The guest actually pours their own elixir drink into their glass.
Edwin Wiley Grove was a druggist who made millions creating and selling his elixirs and tonics. In 1890 more bottles of “Grove’s Tasteless Tonic,” were sold than Coca ColaÒ. Grove dreamed of building a place where people could go to relax, rejuvenate and forget about their woes. His success with elixirs enabled him to realize his dream by building The Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa in Asheville, North Carolina. He worked side by side with the 400 men that turned his dream and vision into a reality, a place that offers the comfort of home and the luxury of a resort.
“Our bartenders incorporate cutting age cocktail techniques when creating E.W. Grove Magical Elixirs,” said Chad Willis, the Resort’s Beverage Manager who personally created seven out of the twelve elixirs offered. “The guest actually plays a part in creating the magical elixir because when it is presented at the table the guest pours their own elixir drink into the glass. Of course the guest may keep the elixir bottle.”
An example of one of the twelve Magical Elixirs is the RANGPUR THYME ELIXIR which combines Tanquray Rangpur gin, fresh thyme, cranberry juice and a splash of simple syrup to make the perfect cocktail. Elixirs are specially priced at $6.00 to $9.00.
Other Magical Elixirs include Donald Ross, Rejuvenation Libation, Mountain View, The Main Event, Energizer, The Package Deal and F. Scott (named for famed guest F. Scott Fitzgerald). The remaining four were selected through a resort-wide contest for Grove Park Inn staffers. The winners: Tomorrow Morning, Romance On The Mountain, Summers-A-Comin’ and Stimulus Program.
