July 15-19 and October 15-18, 2026

Don't miss our favorite craft show of the year. Every exhibitor is the artist (no salespersons selling someone else's art), and these artists are the finest in the South! For four days each July and October, the Harrah's Cherokee Center in downtown Asheville (formally the U.S. Cellular Center) comes alive with fine traditional and contemporary crafts. The Fairs showcase the work of members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild and feature craft demonstrations, regional music, and entertainment.

Qualla Arts & Crafts Mutual Returns to the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands

The headline this summer is the return of Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual for the first time in nearly 30 years. Founded in 1946, Qualla is the oldest Native American cooperative in the United States and has been central to preserving the artistic traditions of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians for generations. Basketry, pottery, woodcarving, and beadwork representing traditions that predate the Guild itself by centuries will be on display and available for purchase.

As members of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, the exhibiting artists have passed a rigorous jury process to become a part of the organization. Membership is open to artists who live in the mountain counties of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, the Carolinas, Tennessee, and the Virginias.

While locals and visitors can find crafts at numerous galleries, the Fairs are unique in that they offer people the opportunity to connect with the artists by purchasing directly from them.

In an age of mass production and imports, the connection between fine American craft and the individual maker is more relevant than ever.

Long known as an arts and crafts destination, Asheville offers architectural charm, eclectic restaurants, and a wide variety of lodging near the Fair. Craft demonstrations are a highlight at the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands. Watching and interacting with highly skilled craftspeople as they create is entertaining and educational.

Be sure to see their interior design vignette showcase. This collaboration between Guild makers, architects, builders, and interior designers showcases craft in the context of furnishing rooms in a house. A great way to get ideas for home.
