The Asheville Area Arts Council has a long history as one of the oldest arts councils in the country. Formed from a working committee of the Junior League, the Civic Arts Council (CAC) was incorporated in 1952.
Today, it's location at 11 Biltmore Avenue in downtown Asheville features a gallery with local artists. It's free to visit! In addition, they offer Regional Artist Project Grants, present professional development training for artists to help advance the business of the arts, and serve as an informational resource to all local artists, community members, students, arts organizations, businesses, and tourists.
The Annual Color Ball is the Asheville Area Arts Council's annual fundraiser ball. Four parties in one night--all within walking distance in downtown Asheville featuring live entertainment, delectable eats, and specialty drinks. Approximately 1000 people attend this annual event. The Annual Color Ball occurs every June in multiple venues around downtown Asheville. Each party has a theme, and ticket costs change from year to year.
The City of Asheville and the Arts Council are partners in the Urban Trail, which has become the unique signature piece of Asheville's history. This walking tour is visited by countless tourists, school groups, and locals. The Arts Council is responsible for marketing, tour scheduling, and guide training for this treasured attraction.
